Continuous Feeding 機器連續灌食注意事項

2016-11-06
Goal:

When bolus feeding does not help patients reach the nutrition they need, we often make use of continuous tube to help them obtain the nutrition required.

Subject: patients who
  1. Feel tolerance of bolus feeding.
  2. Long suffer from abdominal distension that cannot be resolved by medicine
  3. Have fasted for a long time
  4. Have been using gastrostomy or jejunostomy feeding.
  5. Are in need of high calories.
Notes:
  1. Before feeding the formula, please wash your hands thoroughly with soap first.
  2. Follow the labeled time table placed on the cup when feeding patients.
  3. To prevent nutrients being destroyed, do not heat the allocated formula.
  4. Unseal prescription should be placed in the refrigerator. Finish it in 24 hours of time and dates should be clearly marked on the label.
  5. Rinse the bag containing formula with cold water before putting in another set of formula.
  6. To prevent contamination, do not open formula bag too frequently.
  7. Once the formula is opened, finish it within 4 hours and preserve it under 25℃ to prevent bacteria from growing. If the feeding is going to last longer than 4 hours, please preserve it in the refrigerator and finish it within 24 hours.
  8. It is recommended that new feeding bags be changed on a daily basis to reduce infections caused by improper cleaning.
  9. If feeding bags are in need of repeated use, rinse those bags with cold water until there is no residues left in the bags; repeated use should not last longer than 2 days.
  10. When patients suffer from abdominal distension, pain, vomiting, and coughing, feeding should be terminated immediately.
  11. Clean patients’ nostril every day and watch out for the dental care.
  12. One hour before and after feeding, avoid energetic activities like phlegm suction, back tapping, and body turning.
Use tips:
  1. Feeding speeding varies with patient endurance ability: start with 10~30 c.c. per hour; continue the procedure 18~24 hours. If patients do not seem to be bother by the feeding amount, add 10c.c. every 8 hours until calorie level reaches requirement.
  2. If NG feeding and jejunostomy feeding is conducted, induce suction every 8 hours and if the suction amount is greater than using NG feeding or jejunostomy feeding, releasing every eight hours. If the releasing amount is greater than over half hours poured, should not add feeding rate or depend on rate.
  3. When feeding rate is 80~100cc per hour, try the following feeding methods: starting from 100~150ml, if the condition is all right, add 50ml each time until feeding rate reaches ideal calorie.
