HungFu Industrial Group Co. Limited has cultivated their presence in Vietnam for 14 years. During these years HungFu have always given back to the community that they have come to call their own. This time, they reached out to make Loan’s dream a reality. Loan first came to Taiwan in June of 2016 from a humanitarian outreach mission. As of January 2017, Loan is able to walk on her own with special rehabilitation shoes and has since returned home to reunite with her family. This international collaboration between HungFu Industrial Group and CMUH is highly valued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Both CMUH and HungFu Industrial Group were awarded special commendations by the Department of NGO International Affairs to commend their assistance in taking part in this people-to-people diplomacy.

Loan was diagnosed with the rare Klippel-Trenaunay-Syndrome and her attending physician in Taiwan was none-other than CMUH’s Dean to the College of Medicine, Professor Hung-chi Chen. Professor Chen has many years of successful experiences with high-risk reconstructive surgeries. Since last June, Professor Chen has led five advanced leveled surgeries to complete the three-phased treatment for Loan. In collaboration with multiple medical departments that include: the Gynecology department, the Colorectal surgery department, the Pediatric surgery department, the Thoracic surgery department, the Cardiology department and the Anesthesiology department; this joint medical team was able to break through the treatment restrictions of the KT Syndrome and reconstruct four major malformations found on Loan’s body. This includes a 15 kilogram lymphangioma that was on Loan’s left leg. During removal, an unpredictable pulmonary embolism occurred but was swiftly dealt with by the medical team without further complications. After her surgeries, Loan has devoted herself wholeheartedly into physical therapy. Now, she can not only walk on her own but also live independently from the care of others. This particular case showcases the strong medical capabilities and flexible personnel integrations of CMUH.

For many years, HungFu Industrial Group has directly initiated in fulfilling their corporate responsibility to the Vietnamese community that they have come to call home. Alongside CMUH, HungFu sponsored Loan the 4 million in medical expenses that she needed to cover her surgeries. Furthermore, in order to make sure that Loan can continue her efforts in physical therapy; HungFu arranged for experts to construct special rehabilitation shoes for Loan to wear on her left leg. According to HungFu Industrial Group’s Vice Chairman, Zhang Zhi-Bang, “the relationship between Taiwan and Vietnam has become more and more intertwined. Taiwanese businesses are constantly creating more job opportunities in Vietnam. It has always been the corporate culture of HungFu Industrial Group to give back to the community. By collaborating with CMUH on this humanitarian outreach mission, we wish to serve as a beacon to encourage other Taiwanese businesses in Vietnam to also become more involved with the community. HungFu Industrial Group hopes to expand a complete and fully integrated medical model that would allow the medical field, corporates and the government to work in harmony and bring more assistance to those in need”.

The start of HungFu Industrial Group’s collaboration with international medical assistance and their contribution for Vietnam’s rare disease treatments, testifies to the friendship between Taiwanese businesses and Vietnam’s local community. Loan’s journey across the ocean to receive the life changing surgeries that she very much needed has garnered much media attention from Vietnam’s many mass media outlets. Loan’s success brings infinite possibilities to the multitudes of people who are seeking for a new lease in life.
