　　Cancer has long been ranked among the top ten leading causes of death while late marriage also becomes a social norm eventually. However is it possible for infertile couples to realize their dream of having babies in the presence of these two problems? 
　　CMUH Center for Reproductive Medicine has helped many couples realize their dreams in pregnancy and having babies. 45-year-old Mr. Lin and 43-year-old Mrs. Lin have been married for two years but infertile. In 2014, Mr. Lin was discovered with cancer recurrence while Division of Hematology & Oncology physicians suggested them receiving chemotherapy immediately and notified him that his sperm production could be affected after chemotherapy, which placed Mr. Lin in serious depression. 

Consultation for pre-chemotherapy fertility preservation to assure opportunities for birth 
　　CMUH Center for Reproductive Medicine Director Jason Yen-Ping Ho suggested that most people will be severely affected in body, mind and emotion when they first hear about their diagnosis of cancer. Due to lack of medical information, patients often neglect the influence of cancer chemotherapy on reproduction. After seeking advice from Director Ho, Mr. Lin froze his reproductive cells on time before the therapy, which assured birth opportunities. 

Poor ovarian function incorporated with egg freezing treatment for successful achievement of objectives. 
　　During Mr. Lin's chemotherapy, Mrs. Lin also consulted about the application of frozen sperm. They planned to help fertility through simple and affordable artificial insemination but due to the small quantity, lack of activity and poor condition of the sperm from Mr. Lin, they chose the more suitable test tube baby process after consultation. On the other hand, Mrs. Lin’s ovarian function is relatively poor due to older age so that ovulation response via ovulation induction was poos. Director Ho adjusted and ovulation induction method according to the conditions of Mrs. Lin by collecting 2-3 eggs in every 1~2 months. After 7 months, 11 valuable eggs were finally collected for freezing. 
　　Mr. Lin's body restores stability in 3 months and Director Ho started adjusting the endometrium and hormones of Mrs. Lin for the optimal environment of implantation. The laboratory of Center for Reproductive Medicine also thawed the egg at the best time, selecting the sperms with best activity and standard size through microscope, implanting the embryo through Intracytoplasmic Morphologically Selected sperm Injection. In half a month, Mrs. Lin got pregnant successfully and they were really thrilled. 

Do not neglect risks with advanced maternal age, give birth early and early diagnosis and treatment for infertility  
　　Mrs. Lin is in advanced maternal age and overweight. She sought for medical help due to insomnia and shortness of breath. To her surprise, she was discovered with amniotic fluid embolism and issued a critically ill notice. She received an emergency caesarean section and delivered a healthy baby. Under the care of the medical team, the mother and the baby were both safe. Although Mr. and Mrs. Lin realized their dream to have a baby, the process was quite difficult and alarmingly dangerous.
