CMUH International Center Superintendent Hung-Chi Chen

Suffering from “Klippel-Trenaunay-Weber Syndrome”, 5-year-old Vietnamese boy Liu received treatment from an interdisciplinary medical team led by Superintendent Hung-Chi Chen at China Medical University Hospital (CMUH) this March. The treatment costs were covered by Taiwanese company Hong Fu Industrial Group, which has longstanding roots in Vietnam. Having undergone 2 rounds of treatment consisting of 4 different surgeries, Liu recovered very well. Prior to returning to Vietnam, the International Center held a costume farewell party on the 4th to celebrate Liu's healthy recovery and return to Vietnam.

Small and cozy costume farewell party, a “small United Nations” with blessings of love
Hong Fu Industrial Group, international fellows following Superintendent Hung-Chi Chen, volunteers, little girl Let from Myanmar with a severe complex illness seeking medical treatment at the hospital and many others all attended the party with the bustling atmosphere resembling a “small United Nations.” Superintendent Hung-Chi Chen and Hong Fu Industrial Group General Manager Zhe-Ren Wang put on a disguise and wore crowns while other attendees had stickers of flags of their respective countries on their faces, all so that Liu could experience an “international” blessing and sendoff. He was very surprised and enjoyed all of the festivities and food. Liu’s father was very touched and stated that “I would like to thank the love from Hong Fu Industrial Group” and “I will never forget everyone’s help and compassion.”

Hong Fu Industrial Group fulfills its corporate social responsibility, helps two Vietnamese children with severe complex illness thrive again
General Manager Wang stated that Liu has changed from feeling helpless and nervous prior to his admission to the hospital to being lively and excited, experiencing Taiwan's warmth and compassion and becoming an entirely different person. Liu's happy and healthy discharge from the hospital was very meaningful for Hong Fu Industrial Group. This also showed how Hong Fu Industrial Group was giving back to  local residents in Vietnam, fulfilling the humanitarian responsibility and culture of international corporations and thereby spreading the power of love from Taiwan.

International Center Superintendent Hung-Chi Chen expressed his appreciation of Hong Fu Industrial Group and their donation of nearly 7 million NTD over the past 3 years to help Liu and Vietnamese girl Luan, establishing a remarkable corporate paradigm. Because of this compassion from the Taiwanese enterprise and the seamless cooperation with the CMUH medical team, the two children's illnesses were treated and they were given a new chance at life.

With this most recent surgery, Liu was treated for hyperplasia and limb abnormalities in the left lower extremity, undergoing reconstruction of multiple deformities, excess tissue excision, skin grafting, and scarring and contracture treatment. This was followed by rehabilitation to restore normal joint activity and muscle strength. Liu's family also received instruction on subsequent wound care to avoid infection and obtain a better recovery. Next year, Liu will come back to the hospital for a follow-up exam.

Setting an example for others to follow, Taiwanese companies are providing international medical aid
The medical cooperation between CMUH International Center and Hong Fu Industrial Group in treating the two cases of “Klippel-Trenaunay-Weber Syndrome” from Vietnam has helped sick children regain their health and their smiles, setting an example for others to follow. This year, the Center also initiated a cooperation with Pou Chen Group to help an 11-year-old girl from Myanmar with “Goldenhar syndrome,” deeply moving the world with Taiwanese companies’ medical compassion.
