The fast-changing application of AI (artificial intelligence) technology is expanding to different sectors and industries to become the world’s most popular development, including great accomplishments in the medical field. Japan’s Prime Minister Abe drafted the “AI Hospital Treatment System Project” with the plan to create ten AI hospitals by 2022. Taiwan demonstrates excellent medical and clinical services and technological industries, allowing it also develop a niche in AI.

Chairman Chang-Hai Tsai of China Medical University and Medical System stated: “I have a dream to build the first AI Smart Hospital in Taiwan.” Since 2016, China Medical University Hospital (CMUH) has defined medical AI as an important developmental project. At that time, the hospital teamed up with EVER FORTUNE.AI and, after three years of preparation, are now successfully introducing “AI Outpatient (Department of Cardiology, Department of Nephrology, Department of Thoracic Medicine, Department of Breast Surgery, Pediatrics, Department of Ophthalmology, Precision Medicine, and Health Examination Center)” to medical institutions. EVER FORTUNE.AI promotes the progress in medical AI technology through the cooperation with CMUH. As of now, in addition to ten medical institutions in Taiwan, medical device companies from Singapore and others all desire to cooperate with EVER FORTUNE.AI. EVER FORTUNE.AI is also the service agent for NVIDIA in Asia, which cooperates with Flow, Inc. under Trend Micro for big data annotation. This activity draws considerable attention in the industry due to its infinite potential in market development.

Total AI medical solutions with precise and rapid diagnostic predictions create a win-win trust between the hospital and patients
Currently, six AI projects are implemented through specialist doctors at digital instructional hospitals and in ten to hundred thousands of patient cases. AI smart medical care has been trained to reach a correction rate of over 85%, assisting with faster and more accurate interpretation of medical records. Consequently, the sixteen hospitals in China Medical University and Medical System are moving toward the milestone of “AI Smart Medical Care” to benefit more patients.

EVER FORTUNE.AI consists of a team of AI solution architects, bioinformatics engineers and professional groups in big data science that applies AI to provide AI total solutions for medical development. The team also adopts in-depth learning technology to convert big data into neural network models for other experts to analyze, with the results able to assist clinical doctors in conducting medical diagnoses and thereby upgrading the efficiency and accuracy in medical decision-making.

Superintendent Der-Yang Cho stated: “To establish a sense of trust, the doctors need to ‘look at’ the patients, explain and interact with them. If the doctors keep staring at the data, patients will see the doctors as indifferent. This is a common problem with many hospitals. A large part of the reason why patients visit doctors is based on the trust in doctors.” EVER FORTUNE.AI offers and develops total AI medical solutions and assists hospitals in developing AI medical projects. The company cooperates with CMUH to implement bone age diagnosis, chromosomal aberration diagnosis, ECG abnormality diagnosis, chest x-ray, diabetic retinopathy, renal failure and renal disease predictions, Watson’s genetic identification, and multiple research and development outcomes to medical institutions on a large scale. Such second-opinion information will help doctors more effectively and precisely diagnose and understand the illness condition of patients. Consequently, AI can assist with some low-efficiency, cumbersome and costly medical diagnostic procedures to lower human error and provide more comprehensive care.

The warmth of AI technology is the new energy for China Medical University and Medical System to upgrade Taiwan AI hospitals
“Many patients need tender love and care.” CMUH was awarded first place in “Service Evaluation by Votes Award – Medical Category” by Global Views Monthly due to Superintendent Der-Yang Cho constantly reminding doctors to “treat” patients with “kindness.” AI is the key to allowing doctors to save their time for patients. Through the cooperation with clinical hospitals, familiarization with clinical processes and professional knowledge transforms medical AI into a useful supporting tool for the new-generation of medical services, which also contributes to the Taiwanese medical society and speeds up the implementation of a smart medical era.

Currently, the cooperation with CMUH through total AI medical solution integrates data with perfection, including a “doctor marking system,” an “image structure database” and a “big database.” The fast computation effectively executes various AI medical functions so that doctors can more precisely understand patients’ past conditions and predict future results. China Medical University Vice President, Professor Fu-Ren Tsai, expressed that “even the most experienced doctors take a long time to read patients’ bone ages through conventional x-rays, which consumes a lot of valuable time. Reading the bone age with AI allows the doctors to provide more accurate diagnoses.” Doctor Wei-Qin Lin from the Department of Radiology at CMUH also stated: “We need AI to help us find high-risk patients. AI can also help doctors with automatic identification of kidney cancer lesions on CT. On the one hand, AI can reduce the workload on doctors at the Department of Radiology. But most importantly, it can reduce the error rate in reading by the Department of Radiology.”

The Big Data Center of CMUH set up a special big data smart outpatient for renal medicine to instantly integrate the medical cloud with CMUH big data to detect acute kidney failure and provide the public with customized renal disease risk assessment, precise dialysis predictions, and cardiovascular disease and mortality risk assessments. This center was invited by the American Society of Nephrology to exhibit this innovative service, renal medical big data, at the 2018 annual assembly.

CMUH has maintained electronic medical records over the past 18 years, which are highly valuable study treasures for the AI medical system. The sixteen hospitals under China Medical University and Medical System own over 2.6 million entries of medical records and over 1,000 professional doctors and nurses. These resources will become the highly valuable “big data” for study by medical AI. The shift towards medical industry AI is becoming a global trend. CMUH will evolve into an AI Smart Hospital, allowing patients to enter the medical intelligence 4.0 era.
