China Medical University Hospital

China Medical University Hospital provides comprehensive quality medical service to patients around the globe.  In complying with the New Southbound Policy, we actively construct an even more friendly medical environment to the broad Muslim public.  Through the certification as Muslim Friendly Environment by the Chinese Muslim Association and with the construction of prayer room and lower body part cleaning facility, the need of the Muslims coming for medical service is much better satisfied.

Muslim friendly medical center constructed prayer room, friendly bathroom

On the 14th floor of the acute and critical care building of the China Medical University Hospital, an independent Muslim prayer room was constructed where there are sufficient number of prayer rug, shoe rack, direction of prayer, gender separating screen, and prayer time schedule.  The public announcement board in the prayer room posts Halal certified food and beverage information to better serve the dietary requirement of the Muslims.  The lower body part cleaning facility was installed in the bathroom next to the prayer room so the Muslims can pray with a sense of security.

Der-Yang Cho, the superintendent of China Medical University Hospital indicates that the religion of the Muslims has different needs from the rest of the public in that the most basic and important two requirements are the prayer room and the lower body part cleaning facility.  Our hospital has painstakingly considered the movement and the actual need of the Muslims and has thus planned a quiet and comfortable space to renovate and install a prayer room and lower body part cleaning bathroom to better provide and meet the need.  In addition, the service station on the first floor lobby, entrance, hallway, floor introduction, all have been redesigned for a clear and conspicuous marking and movement direction.  We want to express our gratitude for the great support by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the professional inquisition and guidance provided by the Chinese Muslim Association.

Software and hardware most simultaneously synchronized throughout the entire hospital for a Muslim friendly environment

Yang Li Hui, the deputy executive superintendent of China Medical University Hospital was in charge of the hospital’s Muslim friendly environment certification.  She says that constructing a Muslim friendly environment is an important task of the hospital.  The administrative, custodial, general affairs, nursing staff were mobilized to fully and efficiently execute the promotion.  Not only on the first floor of the acute and critical care building and the 14th floor are constructed the Muslim friendly lower body part cleaning bathroom, but also is the plan to expand to all clinics floors of all 7 buildings of the hospital to provide better service to the Muslims.  Moreover, service education training for the service counter personnel, the nursing station personnel on the prayer room floor was also simultaneously deployed to server the Muslims.

Huan Shuen, the deputy director of the hospital’s International Medical Center indicates, “We will continue to strive in the establishment of Muslim friendly procedure in the areas of registration, medication, and other aspects to provide those Muslim friends who have come to Taiwan for travel or long-term word a much friendlier medical environment.

Data have shown that there are 1.6 billion Muslims in the world, and about 300 thousand Muslims live in Taiwan.  The Chinese Muslim Association expresses that China Medical University Hospital applied for certification at the end of 2019, and after thorough investigation and improvement, acquired the ‘Muslim Friendly Environment’ certification from the Chinese Muslim Association.  Due to its being a medical center, the certification has thus even more positive and indicative meaning.  Many other medical institutions are also following the footstep in acquiring the certification.  We are happy that the Taiwan medical community is valuing the needs of the Muslim patients and becoming internationalized.
