Self-massage on Acupoints 健康甩手運動操

Definition:
Wind stroke is also called stroke. In the ancient time, people often refer the following conditions as symptoms of stroke: unexpected fainting, unconsciousness, suddenly deviated eyes and mouth, hemiparalysis, stiff tongue, and impeded speech. With modern medicine, we learn that when there is insufficient blood supply in the brain tissues, stroke occurs.
 
Symptoms:
Such a disorder often happens to middle-age or old man with some clinical manifestations: vertigo, deviated eyes and mouth, aphasia, impeded speech, easily choking and hemiplegia.
 
Introduction of Acupoint massage :
It relaxes tendons and activates collaterals. From the point of view of modern medicine, it helps stimulate the end of the nerve fibers, improve blood circulation, and metabolize tissues to harmonize the function between the tissues and organs.
 
Be aware of the following factors when doing acupoint massage:
  1. Method: press your fingers on the acupoint; gently, slowly, and firmly compress it until you feel there is soreness and numbness sensation. 
  2. Timing: you may massage at anytime except before and after having meals.
  3. Time: there is no time limits; switch every 3~5 minutes for each acupoint.
  4. Contrindication: avoid acupoint massage when there is fracture, tumor, pregnancy, and skin erosions.
  5. Practitioners should clip their fingernails before doing massage for their patients.
  6. Use patient’s width of interphalangeal of thumb as one cun.
Acupoint:
  • Fengchi(GB20):in the posterior region of the neck, below occipital bone. Such an acupoint is mainly helpful for symptoms like insomnia, neck stiffness, headache, dizziness, hemiplegia, and hypertension. (as shown in Fig 1)
  • Jianyu(LI15): on the shoulder girdle, in the cavity between anterior end of lateral border of acromion and the head of humerus. Such an acupoint is mainly helpful for symptoms like extremities numbness, shoulder–hand syndrome, frozen shoulder, and hemiplegia. (Fig 2)
  • Quchi(LI11):on the lateral part of the elbow, at the midpoint of connecting LU5 which is lateral to biceps tendon in the cubital fossa lateral epicondyle of the humerus. Such an acupoint is mainly helpful for symptoms like for diarrhea, constipation, heavy head, headache, insomnia, stroke and hypertension, and modulating Qi and blood circulation. (Fig 3)

  • Neiguan(PC6):2 cuns proximal to the palmar wrist crease. Such an acupoint is mainly helpful for sedation, regulation of blood pressure, and palpitation. (Fig 4)
  • Shenmen(HT7):on the anteromedial part of the wrist with palmar wrist crease. Such an acupoint is mainly helpful for symptoms like angina, palpitation, insomnia, absent-minded, chest tightness, and joint pain. (Fig 5)
  • Laogong(PC8):on the palm between 2nd and 3rd metacarpal bones. Such an acupoint is mainly helpful for symptoms like stroke, wrist spasm, palpitation, and chest tightness. (Fig 6 )

  • Hegu(LI4):on the dorsum of the hand, between thumb and index finger.Such an acupoint is mainly helpful for symptoms like headache, sore throat, hypertension, blurred vision, and deviated eyes and mouth. (Fig 7 )
  • Sangyinjiao(SP6):on the tibial part of the leg, 3 cun above protruding part of medial malleolus. Such an acupoint is mainly helpful for symptoms like low extremities paralysis,edema and also release muscle guarding. (Fig 8)
  • Zusanli(ST36): on the tibialis anterior muscle, 3 cuns below the depressed site lateral to the patellar ligament. Such an acupoint is mainly helpful for symptoms like hypertension, constipation, knee pain and it also improves some chronic diseases. It is named long live healthy acupoint. (Fig 9)
