Nuclear Medicine Scan 核子醫學掃描

2016-11-06
Purpose of the scan
In a nuclear medicine scan, a tiny amount of radiotracer consisting of the short half-life radionuclide and pharmaceutical compound is administered. The radiopharmaceuticals make nuclear medicine studies able to evaluate the disease extent or treatment response based on imaging the cellular physiological and biochemical functions.

Things to keep in mind
  1. Notify our medical staff if you might be pregnant because you cannot undergo such a procedure.
  2. Usually, you do not need to do anything special to prepare for the scan. We will let you know if you need to fast or drink water beforehand.
  3. Before the scan, we would either inject the tracer into your vein or ask you to swallow it.
  4. After the tracer is injected or swallowed, we will schedule a time to have you scanned. If you are asked to wait for your turns, you may leave the Department of Nuclear Medicine.
  5. At the time of your scheduled scan, please wait momentarily in front of the scanning room. You will need to empty your bladder just before the scan.
  6. During the scan, do your best to remain still. This will improve the quality of the image.
