Foreword
Dilatation and curettage uses curette to sample or remove uterine contents or endometrium
Purpose
It is used for treating and diagnosing abnormal uterine bleeding, pregnancy termination, and malignant pathological changes in endometruim.
Preparation

Fasting for 8 hours is necessary because the surgery is under general anesthesia

Please bathe cleanly, rest adequately, polish no finger nails, wear no heavy makeup, and put on no accessory such as ear rings.

On the day of the operation, bring along an adult family member. For artificial abortion, ask your husband to accompany you and bring along his identification card.
Cautions after surgery

After the surgery, remove the gauze clogged in vagina under doctor’s instruction.

Pay attention to massive bleeding.

Be aware of the urinating ability, whether voluntarily or involuntarily.

Return to the hospital if there is unbearable pain.
Cautions of Self-care

After the operation, patients should not engage in heavy work load during the first week, and abide by the instructions given by the doctors.

After the operation, avoid sexual intercourse, vagina lavaging, and use of tampon during hemorrhage period.

Self-examination of complications:
a. chillness or fever over 37.5℃
b. foul odor with vagina secretion
c. severely deteriorating abdominal pain and vomiting
d. persisted massive vaginal bleeding for more than one week
